• Re: terry kath

So many people exhibit reckless behavior with firearms around. Terry was just one more unfortunate statistic in this regard. What the hell was going on in his life that compelled such risk-taking behavior? Was he just fooling around, trying to impress people, trying to be funny or entertaining to his friends, or was it just an utter lack of ...

  • The Grilled Tuna Was Best Part of the Airplane Menu

Served up piping hot, broiled to perfection, Hot Tuna live routinely put the Airplane, with all of its false hip pretentions to shame! Grace was a mediocre vocalist at best ( she even admits as such these days, no surprise there--and does anyone remember--or even care--about that disastrous solo album ''Hole''--'nuff said, me thinks). Paul Kantner ...

  • Zeppelin...Overated but Worth It!

Yep, worth every freaking penny. Overated, sho 'nuff, so was everyone else at the time. (Good god, there is still no creature alive that's worse than some 60-year-old Dead head, go figure) But Zep were more than merely competent musicians, extremely simple but exciting in concert and on record, and they breathed new life into the ...

  • Cream Was Always Overated..and so was Clapton!

Just my considered opinion. True they get credit for being out there with the Power Trio bizness, and incorporating blues, etc etc in their tunes, but jeez guys, they were repetitious in the extreme, and who cared about 20 minute drum solos anyway? Not me, ever, not then not now. There are plenty of guitarists who just SMOKE Clapton on guitar, ...

  • Re: Kirsten as Debbie?

Kisten has the right look, to be sure, but Debbie was much more sexy in a self-consciously ''contrived but uncontrived'' way way than Kirsten could ever manage with a director hovering over her on a sound stage. Besides, Kirsten can't sing...

  • James Gang with Joe Walsh

I saw joe Walsh and his barnstorm band shortly after the release of the Barnstorm album at the Agora Club in Columbus, Ohio. I recall it was a chilly, drizly evening, the club suffered from either poor rpromotion of this show ( or else no one really cared to come out on a weeknite to see Joe, at a very reasonable ticket price of about $6.00!) Eh, ...

  • Re: MORE JA CONCERTS

Is there anyone out there like me who understands that the Airplane were essentially creatively DEAD after 1971? Jeez, just listen to the albums they recorded after that time...Jorma and Jack were smart to stick with their Hot Tuna project, for it left them a much larger and longer lasting musical legacy that the old hippie chestnuts they played ...

  • Re: Paul Butterfield Blues Band

You may think I'm just odd, but I never really liked the first two albums at all! I didn't like PBBB until the days of Resurrection of PigBoy Crabshaw and In My Own Dream. I only saw them live on one occasion, when they were touring in support of In My Own Dream, in the summer of 1968, with a full horn section ( 3 pieces--who were ...
