First of all, quit reading between the lines. I acknowledged the fact that Lennon wrote great songs, and wasn't merely a hypocrite. The Beatles are my all time favourite group, and songs like Across the Universe and Dear Prudence are some of the most beautiful I've ever heard. But he still contradicted himself with his actions.
I ...

Lennon was an amazing songwriter, but he was indeed a hypocrite. He preached about love and peace, but used to hit his first wife (Cynthia), cheated on her, and ignored his son Julian. This mistreatment of his wife and child was inexcusable, and not in the spirit of peace and love. And what was with those bed-ins? What

Lennon wrote some nice songs but he was a hypocrite and a bum. If any Beatle was a musical genius it was Macca. Bob Dylan was probably the only musical and intellectual genius.
Jerry might have been a genius, but I wouldn't know because I haven't heard him speak many words other than 'trip', 'scene', and 'man'

Yep, a real genius, and what a songwriter too, with those great tunes about yellow snow, penises, and other themes that are popular 8-year-old kids.
As far as I'm concerned, the greatest thing Zappa ever did was have Jack Bruce play bass on Apostrophe.
Dylan is probably the only true genius from the 60's music scene.

Phooey on the overrated psuedo-intellectual Zappa. His guitar playing was ok, but he had nothing on the legends like Jimi, Beck, Clapton, Buchanan, etc.

The vault rules, I have no complaints at all and feel extremely priveleged to have this resource available to me. All I can ask for is more Cream and Hendrix, and a lot less 80's concerts.

Peter Grant:
.....have you ever listened to White Room or Tales of Brave Ulysses?
Yes, those lyrics kick all kinds of ass. White Room's lyrics are heavy, they paint a picture of a very scary, desolate place. Cream had killer lyrics, like on SWLABR, Deserted Cities of the Heart (my favourite), Sweet Wine, What a Bringdown, etc. In terms of

Phil Lesh is great, one of my favourites too. Very creative and exploratory. And Entwistle, man, sometimes I think he's the greatest in rock history.
Damn I wish I was born a couple dozen years earlier so I coulda seen some of these bands live.

Some shows from the Sunshine Superman would be great. I know he played the Fillmore west and Cow palace back in his prime. He may be a bit weird but he can write some groovy tunes.

To me, Jack Bruce's playing is the heaviest I've ever heard. I agree that sometimes his playing does sound speed-effected, like a hyperactive little kid. But this resulted in endlessly creative improvisation and variation. The two Jack's are great and I'll take them over guys like Les Claypool anyday.

Kharmakreep:
OH PLEASE!!! First of all....people who are on the supreme level of these two men (Jack Casady and Jack Bruce) need not be compared. I suppose if it helps you get your winks at night..so be it.
p.s.- Jack B's better
Totally agree with you there ;)

lenscap:What a kick listening to this show.I was lucky enough to be in the FE audience that night, with my camera, too. I was fifteen and had seen them for the first time the year before at Murray the K's Easter Show at the RKO 57th Street. Great memories.
I think the mighty Cream played the Murray the K's shows too. Did you get to see them?

Actually, the first trio (and the best imo) in rock history was the Cream, formed in 66. Jimi was a big fan and seemed to have formed the Experience trying to go for a Cream sound. Unfortunately Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding were practically amateurs compared to Ginger Baker and Jack Bruce, and they couldn't keep up with Jimi a lot

Actually, after Clapton first saw Hendrix he was a little shaken, but his girlfriend at the time has said that others at the club were unimpressed by his sloppy playing and show-off moves. And in '68 Clapton stated, about Hendrix, ''I don't think he's a great guitar player''. Make of it what you will; I'm just saying that not all of his ...

Rush? Well they're no Cream, but they are an extremely talented, great band, and it's a crime that they aren't in the rock hall of fame. But man, Neil Peart's lyrics are even worse than Page and Plant's. Probably the cheesiest lyrics I've ever heard.

Jack Casady is great, but he's no Jack Bruce.

jakcap:ya know who really sucks??? The Who and their pinball sh!t and Bob Marley and his cylipso ''White chicks on Caribbean Vacation dance music'' give me a fcuking break...with all the talent on the top concert list I cracked up when I saw these losers in the top of the list
Uh, sorry, but The Who could play Zeppelin into dust, and were a far ...

Well, I'm not a drummer so I don't really know too much about the technical merits of Bonham's playing. All I know is that the only drum solo I can actually listen to and genuinely enjoy while I'm working, hanging out, walking the dog, etc. is Baker's 'Toad', both the studio version and the various live cuts ...

To paraphrase Jack Bruce 'you can blame Led Zeppelin for heavy metal'
Jimmy actually once asked Jack to join Zeppelin
