I need to correct my previous post -- I saw the Jimi Hendrix Experience
with Mitchell twice in 1968, not 1967, but I am sure you all caught
that error. Hendrix first played the Winterland in early 68; his
previous Bill Graham concert appearance was in June 1967 at the
Fillmore, just after he played at Monterey.
I should also ...

This is a copy of what I posted in the Main Feedback Forum this morning:On November 3rd after walking precincts in the Bay Area, I attended a
concert called ''Experience Hendrix'' in SF. It's a national tour to
honor the work of the great Hendrix. It featured Billy Cox, Hendrix's
second bass player after Redding, and Mitch Mitchell, ...

On November 3rd after walking precincts in the Bay Area, I attended a concert called ''Experience Hendrix'' in SF. It's a national tour to honor the work of the great Hendrix. It featured Billy Cox, Hendrix's second bass player after Redding, and Mitch Mitchell, his first and last drummer (Buddy Miles was in between). The guitar ...

Just catching up to many posts over the last many months. Thanks for all the information about Bloomfield, my guitar hero in my teens. My impression of him is that he was very smart and very insecure. I think he liked speed in the 60's and they always used the excuse ''Mike's insomia caught up with him'' when he would miss ...

Finally looking at this forum again, after a long hiatus. Thanks for your additions about the Thursday night show at the Fillmore. As you can read from my first long post, Albert King nearly stole the show from Hendrix on Saturday night also. Listening to King today, that is kind of hard to understand. Albert did not jump ...

Just catching up to posts from the last few months. I see where some were saying this forum is dead. I used to post a lot, but had a baby, so between work and being daddy....
I am one of those who attended a number of shows at Fillmore, Winterland, and Fillmore West and wrote some lengthy stories about seeing the Electric Flag, ...

UCSteve: There is lots of early Quicksilver here. Lots.
Video: We all await to see this and they are running way behind. But, it takes TONS of time to clean up video and sync it. If you think the audio quality is bad at time here, you won't like bad video to go along with it.
Nitpick: I think the concert notes are ...

Wow, what a flashback to hear Orleans. They were a ''local'' band when I was attending grad school in Ithaca New York. One of my professor's sons (Matt Kelly) played in the group and we used to go dancing til the wee hours to this fine band. They were kind of like a East Coast version of the Doobie Brothers (they also sound a ...

I see where someone recently called for more Moby Grape to emerge from the Vault. If listeners have not checked out the small piece of Moby Grape represented here (not available for download yet), you really should. Just three songs are in this early 1967 Fillmore show, but all three are excellent with exceptional sound (especially if your ...

The new Quicksilver concert is great stuff. First, the audio fidelity is very good for one of these ''old'' shows. You can hear each vocal and instrument. Second, as the description notes, this is the early version of the band with Jim Murray. While he was not a sterling singer, his third guitar added a fullness to their sound that ...

Vaultster PaulCaruso wrote that Hendrix did 6 shows over 3 nights at Winterland. But, as I have posted elsewhere at this site, these were not separate ''shows.'' In other words, the Winterland Ballroom was not emptied and a new audience allowed in. When the doors opened and you grabbed your apple and made your way ...

I am serious though about needing help on the Johnny Winter/Lee Michaels concert at Fillmore West. I cannot find diddly about it and I am pretty proficient at finding stuff through the 'Net. I know I did not imagine the show. It included Frosty's (Lee Michaels great drummer) infamous bare hand drum solo. Maybe someone from ...

Johnny Reeferseed: I have no idea about concert tapes from the wonderful era of jazz. I listened to my mom's vinyl, some of which I still have.
Speaking of Johnny Winter, I saw him at Fillmore West when Rick Derringer was in the band. Great show to say the least. Mike Bloomfield sat in on a couple of tunes. Bloomer and ...

Diane M: Good for you, that is, teaching this music history. And, the thing is about this era -- the music is strongly linked with the major political, social, and cultural changes of the day so you get to talk about those issues too. It's all one in my mind.
One reason I was so amped up about the rock scene in those days was that ...

I am listening to the great show by B.B. King from June of 1968 just posted. The description of the show is right-on. Having seen B.B. at Winterland about 6 months prior, I can attest to the power of his game at that time of his life. While he continues to tour today, which in itself is a testament to his love of the blues and ...

And, maybe give us an update on video/DVD progress? How bad or good are things looking?

To me, it's clear that the easiest shows to offer for sale are the ones with good audio (regardless of format). For example, over the weekend, I was turning a friend onto the Quicksilver and Electric Flag shows and geez, the audio is really sketchy in places (missing mics on voices, Bloomfield's guitar barely heard, etc, etc.). Clearly,

I too have been patiently awaiting the release of video (DVD) of some older concerts, especially those I attended 1967-70. The Vault workers originally said they would be released last year, but I can imagine that making sure the video is cleaned up enough and synced properly with audio tapes is a big, big job and taking more time than they ...

Thanks for posting the historical early recording from Feb 1967 by Quicksilver. If there was ever more evidence needed that the jam bands of the era (Dead, Quicksilver, the Airlplane) were jumping off from a blues base, well, listen to this. The Stones were doing the same thing in England, as were the Who. They all needed time to ...
