Lossless downloads (FLAC) rather than lossy MP3's?

    Hello,
While I appreciate the shows you have put up...I do not need to tell you folks how rare these pieces of music history they are...

Given the importance of such rare recordings - Why did you folks choose to limit the downloads to 256Kbps MP3 files??? Why not make the recordings available in pristime uncompressed format (WAV) with lossless compression(FLAC) on top of that to save on space?

I would really love to purchase the recordings in lossless format rather than lossy MP3.

    Thanks

I totally agree, I think if someone is going to fork over their money for these shows they should be FLAC or SHN files. With these being from the master tapes and sounding as pristine as they're supposed to sound it really is a shame that they're being compressed to MP3's. I was really dissapointed to see they are MP3's and it actually prevented me from spending a good amount of money on several shows here......

I also would love to see FLAC used.  I would even pay a premium for the FLACS.  Gov't Mule does this successfully on their site for usually no more than $3 or $4 more than the mp3 files.

I would be happy to spend my money here if you offered FLAC format downloads....

Re: Lossless downloads (FLAC) rather than lossy MP3's?

Totally agree. Just listening to the lossy files makes me cringe. But I suppose it is a lowest common denominatory thing where maybe the powers that be are worried that the consumer is not smart enough to figure out how to decompress and access flac file and thus have a tech support issue as well as a hit on sales. If they only knew what an appetite is out there for decent sounding online archives. It is a common mistake in marketing. Ray Kroc vehemently protested changing his religiously held burger and fries formula, took a chance when someone suggested that people would pay a little more for more food, added the big mac to the menu and the rest is history. On the other hand my friend (a member of a major label band and in the music business for years) can't even seem to figure it out, calls it computer mumbo jumbo and makes me do all his dl's and burning for him (off legal ROIO sites of course,) No accounting for laziness!! I guess we are doomed to a future of swishy sounding cymbals and crunky bottom end. Get with it Wolfgangs Vault and say no to the dumbing down of the music business! And make a few bucks at the same time...

I've posted previously, that WGV will get a significant amount of my money IF & WHEN they add a lossless option (flac, ape or shn) (of course with no DRM).

    Not a penny on mp3's.

Wolfgangs vault - just charge a little more but make the shows available in wav or flac or shn format.

these are lossless formats, the MP3 FORMAT YOU ARE USING AND SELLING IS A DEGRADED FORM OF THE ORIGINAL MUSIC.

I cant spend money to get mp3 quality - even the MP3 quality should be at least 292.

love to listen for free though, i just wont buy in a lossy format.

I'm also interested in lossless FLAC format for purchases.  Thanks!

totally agreed with all the previous posts

Re: Lossless downloads (FLAC) rather than lossy MP3's?

I agree 100%.  Why they don't offer a FLAC option like most sites do, (and charge more obviously) I don't know.

I know ALOT of people on other music boards have said the same thing.  They won't pay for MP3 downloads, but would GLADLY pay more for lossless.  I myself would spend a ton of money here if they were lossless downloads.  As it stands now I won't pay for crummy  MP3's.

How about an official response on this?? This place would sell aton more shows if they offered a lossless option.

Re: Lossless downloads (FLAC) rather than lossy MP3's?

I guess if anyone really wanted the shows they could just hook up an external recorder to the audio output of their computer and burn the shows for free.....

I bet there will be an official response now!

Re: Lossless downloads (FLAC) rather than lossy MP3's?

Couldn't agree more.  I'd love to download about 30 of these shows but won't do it until a lossless format is available (if ever). Granted the 30 I buy will be a drop in the bucket but I'm sure there's an army of people out there who aren't making purchases because of the "mp3 only" restriction.  An official response to the lossless issue would also be welcome as well.

Ditto. Huge, huge ditto. Won't even bother with MP3s anymore. They just don't translate.

Re: Lossless downloads (FLAC) rather than lossy MP3's?

I second all the above---no $ for mucked up sound.   I guess they don't want anything that could be at some later time converted to a new format--sort of planned obsolence.  Read the following to see exactly what your ears have been telling you.  Notice the way MP3 messes up the mid range, not just the highs.  If they cared about sound quality but for some reason feel the need to have a lossy format,  ogg is clearly the way to go.
