The people praising them in this video are musically ignorant. I don't get how anyone could see Zeppelin as an original or innovative band. They didn't accomplish anything that hadn't been done before them (except maybe getting their private jet). I don't understand all the praise for Bonham either....

Zeppelin could rock though. Just listen to a song like Communication Breakdown. It's got balls. Same with Heartbreaker, Living Loving Maid, Houses of the Holy, etc. Page was a thief and a fairly sloppy guitar player, but he was quite innovative with his instrument and very skilled too. He was also a master craftsmen of great riffs. And I don't get why people bash Plant. I admit that on live cuts he could be horrible. That call and response between Page's guitar and Plant's shrieks can hardly pass for creative improvisation - it was terrible! But on record, he delivered some amazing performances. I think he is one of the great rock vocalists. Zeppelin's real bread and butter was their rhythm section. Bonham was one of the great rock drummers; a total powerhouse. And JPJ always delivered tasty basslines. The bass playing on What is and What Should Never Be was probably the first bass playing I ever really noticed and dug.

Sound familiar? Kind of blowing with the wind there Weirdy.....

At any rate - I am trying to find all those wizard and elves lyrics and still can't find them.

I do think Bonham was great, but he's not anywhere near the greatest as some people on this video seem to believe. His playing behind the band is fantastic, but his drum solos bore me to death. Ginger could have played circles around him.

And I'm still waiting for Zeppelin fans to cite a single innovation by any member of the band. They weren't original and they suffered from a lack of real creativity.

Not a big fan of Ginger Baker and I agree that while unique - Bonham and Moon were both a bit ....predictable. Phil Rudd is the master (only half kidding).

As for innovation, not sure what your after, I mean what they did, they did really really well....

Well, I'm not a drummer so I don't really know too much about the technical merits of Bonham's playing. All I know is that the only drum solo I can actually listen to and genuinely enjoy while I'm working, hanging out, walking the dog, etc. is Baker's 'Toad', both the studio version and the various live cuts that I have.
