    Elton John

I listened with great delight this evening to Elton's Fillmore West performance of November 12, 1970.  This was a rare treat for me as a long-time fan.  Until now, the only version of his performances there I had heard floating around was his performance on a successive night, and the sound wasn't the best.  Thank you!  Thank you!  Thank you!

I thought I was the only Elton fan here!?...I've seen 8 shows...with a full band...solo...3 pieces...but the Best Elton show by far was when he had percussionist Ray Cooper backing him up...Cooper has an array of instruments about the stage, and seamlessly glides from one to another within the span of each song...Great stuff to hear and see....the  Fillmore concert is great....hoping there are more to follow....Peace

I just created an Elton John performer forum for the Concert Vault Elton fans, and moved this thread into that forum.

Elton is awesome!  I'm so happy the Concert Vault has made the 11-12-1970 Fillmore West performance available!!  I'm not old enough to remember him back in the classic years, but I love it!    I agree that Elton solo and Elton w/ Ray are the best shows!!  Not only ray, but Elton also has more freedom to play the keys and show off a little more  I hope he does another Solo tour or another one with Ray Cooper!  I hope there are more Elton John performances that the Concert Vault can post!

    Re: Elton John

I've been an Elton fan since I was a teenager (in the 90s), so I'm young as Elton fans go! I've never had the pleasure of listening to a concert from this long ago. Also, I've never been able to hear Elton with just his original band! Elton's voice is so raw and Nigel and Dee are in incredible form like I've never heard it. Thank you so much for allowing people to hear this for free, it's quite a gift. I can only hope there is more!

    Re: Elton John

Amen!  Just saw Elton last night in The Red Piano show in Vegas- entertaining as always, though some of the videos that David LaChapelle created  were disturbing as well as distracting to Elton's performance.  Told my wife afterwards that of all the Elton Jonn shows I've seen over the years...the one with just he and Ray Cooper on stage was by far and away the most entertaining.  Seeing Elton perform in primarily an accoustic/solo environment really showed how brilliant and talented of a performer he is.

    Re: Elton John

As a long time fan of Elton (I think I was 12 yrs old when I first listened to the Yellow Brick Road Album on 8 track - I'm dating myself here) I really appreciate this concert.  One of the things I feel is that, over the years,  he never got the respect he deserved as a musician because the wild costumes and the personna sometimes overshadowed his skill as a technical musician.  If you listen to him on a solo tour, or to this concert, you can tell how really brilliant he is as a pianist.  Kudos to the Vault for showcasing this amazing talent, early in his career, where his skill as a musician can truly be appreciated.

    Re: Elton John

Reghead, I'd have to agree....Reg's "wild" lifestyle has deterred some potential fans(not that he needs 'em) which is a pretty sad statement about the world in general, especially audiophiles...But if you can't look past his flair for outlandish costumes, and his sexual preference, you don't deserve to be a fan anyway....One of the best, longest lasting, most versatile singer/songerwriters to ever live. period.

I was in Selfridges yesterday and trust me Elton John's iPods are the most beautiful iPods I have ever seen - pictures do not do them justice - they glisten like mad and look as if they are completely covered in Swarovski - I have put a deposit down on 2 of them.
