Re: New Performer Forum for Derek and The Dominos

I agree - Derek and the Dominos was the best phase of Eric Clapton's career. It merits a forum thread - in fact it should not be limited to just the FE concerts that are stored here, but also include the influence Duane Allman and the Allman Brothers Band had on Derek and the Dominos.

I miss the way Eric played during this phase of his career.

The performance of Why Does Love Got To Be Sad on 10/24/1970 has got to Eric's finest guitar playing. I love how he starts the second solo (The Amajor solo at the end).

Pappy, I could not agree with you more that WDLGTBSS is Eric at his finest. D& D Live @ Fillmore East is not only my all-time fave Clapton CD, it's my fave CD, period, and WDLGTBSS is a masterpiece in a masterpiece.  The guitar playing is superb.  Plus, his vocals blow me away, as one can just feel the anguish & torment in his voice since he's got it so bad for Patti Boyd, but she's married to his best friend, Geo Harrison. His pain is the real deal.

The Who's "Tommy" was referred to as a rock opera.  You could call D&D @ Fillmore a rock soap opera.

Big Daddy, You ain't just whistlin' Dixie, brother! The story in the "Guitar World" , December 94 issue reveals the truth of all that happened at Criteria that fateful session. This is a very humbling perspective of Duane by one of Allman's heroes. The Marshall photos are excellent, also. If you want a copy of the article, I'll see if it's cool. Send me an address to send it to.

How 'Bout this cat? Luckiest man I know! And what's great is he is willing to share. At least us old dudes on the bus will have what Bill knew: "The Best Damn Music in the World"!

My E-Mail is here. talk again, soon.

To:  Ricky Mcd. from Macon, Ga.

This is Timbro from Osos, CA. I just ran across this Forum and, if possible, would like to take you up on your offer to send the December 94 "Guitar World" article.  I've been trying to gather everything on Duane there is out there and this would be a great addition to add to the collection.

One of my missions in life for years was trying to find some video footage of him with the Brothers or Dominos or whomever.  Well one night about three years ago, Devon Allman's Band Honey Tribe came to town. Devon was fronting his Dad's band. After Devon's set, he was hanging in the back of the theater and I asked him where I might find some film of his uncle.  He asked me if I'd ever checked out YouTube. I'd never heard of YouTube but he explained it all to me.  A very southernly gentleman.  I went home after the show and spent the rest of the night until the break of dawn watching Duane and the Brother's jamming on all those incredible songs.  I was truly in heaven; my mission in life had been fulfilled and the source of the epiphany was Duane's nephew!  What a serentipitious experience.

I keep checking back on YouTube for more postings, but not much is new. If you know of any other way to find film of Duane, I'd be much obliged.   In the meantime, Eat a Peach for Peace,
    Timbro
