The best download of the year, for my money, was America, Live at the Blossom Center, Cleveland, 1982. Sure, I can hear the derisive laughter and sarcastic snorts of disbelief from here, but give this concert a try. They put of a live record in the late 1970s and, frankly, it was a snoozer. No energy. Uninspired. But this concert is completely different. Dewey and Glenn play with zeal, the song selection is great, and includes a couple songs that were never hits, but are among the best of the concert, such as Inspector Mills. Others like Sandman and Sister Golden Hair drive harder than their studio counterparts. America's image was all syrup and no swing, but here they rock, swing and growl with gusto. While their studio stuff sounds sedate and is showing its age, this concert belies a timeless energy and enthusiasm that the band and producer George Martin wrung out of the studio process.
