I saw joe Walsh and his barnstorm band shortly after the release of the Barnstorm album at the Agora Club in Columbus, Ohio. I recall it was a chilly, drizly evening, the club suffered from either poor rpromotion of this show ( or else no one really cared to come out on a weeknite to see Joe, at a very reasonable ticket price of about $6.00!) Eh, Columbus was never much of a music town, even whren the Agora was going gangbusters, and the club succumbed to poor attendance, changes in ownership, and all the rest.
The crown was very thin that nite, not even 100 people, perhaps less. We were sitting dowmn in front, at opne of the club tables, guzzling boilermakers. The other two members of the James Gang, no doubt still feeling a bit jilted at the time, were sitting at the next table! Joe and his Branstorm band did its level best to enliven the evening, giving the few assembles a full show, playing most of the Barnstorm album, a few James Gang chestnuts, and two tunes which would end up the next album. It was a great nite to see Joe in an intimnate concert setting, feeling his way with his new band.
I have never seen Joe in concert since that time. I always thot he was overated as a writer and performer, relying on a muddy guitar sound and gimmickry to get his signatuire sound. Just my opinion.
