that be that made this performance available.

Like my taste for a good stout, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway was an acquired one for me- I came
into the Genesis camp circa 1977 (Seconds
Out was my first album). I distinctly remember hearing The Lamb… in it’s entirety for the first time on my way to, of all
things, a Journey concert. I recall
being able to pick out the title track and “The Carpet Crawlers”, having been
exposed to them on Seconds Out. I grew to like “Back in NYC” right away, and
then spent the rest of my young adulthood trying to figure out just what the
hell the rest of the album was about, especially as the
post-Gabriel-and-Hackett version of Genesis played less and less of this
material.

Thankfully, three things happened to make me appreciate The Lamb.. One, I got a little older and
wiser, making me more sensitive to and appreciative of different pieces of
music. Two, some very enterprising folks
from a long-ago Genesis fan forum called “Paperlate” produced an exhaustingly annotated
document of this story. And last, but certainly not least, my having to do a
lot of work in Montreal exposed me to that wonderful little dance troupe known
as The Musical Box, and that I was able to see them reproduce this very show on
two occasions, pointing-out what I missed 30 years ago.

I have an old cassette copy of “Swelled and Spent”, which
had to suffice for over 20 years as my live archive of this. I felt cheated when the boys decided to
rerecord some pieces of this show, and market it as the holy grail on their
first box set.

So again, thanks folks for getting this one out. It was long overdue, and I will certainly be
in line to purchase my own copy of it, if and when it becomes available. I’m only hopeful that Genesis themselves will
delve into those boxes of soundboard cassettes rumored to be in a closet either
at The Farm, (or one of Phil’s homes) and get busy making those available. Bumps, warts, and all, it makes for a very
pleasant experience.

Re: Shrine 24 jan 75 stream :)

It's actually the FIRST encore. Despite the running order presented in the recording Musical Box was actually performed first. Audience recorings prove that - though you don't really need the proof as TMB was always the first encore, and the second (if any) was Watcher or rarely The Knife.

Also FYI, the part of the second Rael story that appears between Anyway and Supernatual Anesthetist didn't actually happen there - it belongs before Lillywhite.

SS
Re: Shrine 24 jan 75 stream :)

Can I just add my thanks for adding this brilliant show! If you have more Genesis, it would be fantastic to hear more of them on here.

Re: Shrine 24 jan 75 stream :)

I agree with what live_historian has said, but perhaps this Shrine concert is the only live multi-track recording of The Lamb, as stated in the liners to Genesis Archive 1(?). The BBC Wembley recording might have been recorded/mixed directly in stereo (2-track) for airplay over the radio. I might be wrong about this of course!

Either way this is the real deal sans overdubs, with both encores intact. Bravo!!!

Shrine 24 jan 75 stream :)

Many thanks for the excellent Shrine Auditorium Lamb show, until now we'd only been able to speculate that the master resided in the King Biscuit vaults. This really is a HUGE bonus to Genesis fans everywhere - kudos once more to the mighty wolfgangsvault!

Some corrections you might want to incorporate in the accompanying details:

1. This isn't the only professional recording of the Lamb tour as the BBC have a multitrack recording of the 70 mins they broadcast. However your Shrine show may well be the only surviving FULL proffessional recording.

2. Phil Collins wasn't really "waiting in the wings" for Peter Gabriel to leave; they planned on recruiting a new singer and the idea of Phil taking the reigns only germinated after they'd failed to find someone else suitable. Maybe also consider replacing the picture of Phil Collins as front man with an image of Peter Gabriel - it was his concept and his swan song with Genesis.

3. The text seems to suggest that The Musical Box is the only encore whereas it is the 2nd encore, the first being Watcher Of The Skies from their Foxtrot album.
