Johnny Reeferseed: I have no idea about concert tapes from the wonderful era of jazz. I listened to my mom's vinyl, some of which I still have.
Speaking of Johnny Winter, I saw him at Fillmore West when Rick Derringer was in the band. Great show to say the least. Mike Bloomfield sat in on a couple of tunes. Bloomer and Winter -- two speed freaks (and along with the meth, heroin to come down later) laying down the licks. I distinctly remember (and prudes should cover skip the next sentence) Johnny Winter standing behind Derringer during a song and making pelvic thrusts into Rick's behind. It was very sexual and very gay. Just reporting the facts -- I have no idea what their sexual preference were or are and don't care. I do know that the scene was strange as you all know that Winter is a very unique looking person and Rick D was a very cute, innocent looking young guitar-slinger. I am glad that Johnny has made it thru his addictions and health problems and is still performing. He was a star at Clapton's recent guitar crossroads concert, as reported by Rolling Stone.
The Winter show at Fillmore West is very curious for this reason: I have never been able to find a poster of the show or any reference at all to the concert in any way. It seems to not have been a Bill Graham Presents show, as it would be listed, yet I am pretty sure Graham controlled the Fillmore West (formerly the Carousel Ballroom) at the time. The other groups were Lee Michaels and I think It's A Beautiful Day. I asked a highly respected Bay Area poster collector about this show and he was not sure why it cannot be found. I put it out here in case any one in Wolfgang's Vault land can shed light on what the heck this concert was and when it occurred. I think it was late 1970 or sometime in 1971. Anyone else at this show? Anyone? Anyone?
