    Re: Concert Vault Feedback

To me, it's clear that the easiest shows to offer for sale are the ones with good audio (regardless of format).  For example, over the weekend, I was turning a friend onto the Quicksilver and Electric Flag shows and geez, the audio is really sketchy in places (missing mics on voices, Bloomfield's guitar barely heard, etc, etc.).  Clearly, music performed and recorded in the Record Plant before a few fans and friends is sounding a lot better than a reel-to-reel recording overseen by some stoned-out dudes at the Winterland.  But, I was there, so I still may be interested in buying it.

The video is the real gold mine however for these "early" shows at the Fillmore (and West) and Winterland.  But, I realize that cleaning up the sound, cleaning up the tape, and syncing it all together is a Herculian task.  I know it took a lot of time and money to do "Festival Express" the DVD of that historic concert series across Canada in June 1970  But it was worth it, as that video is priceless (if you fans of The Band, Janis, the Dead, and Buddy Guy have not seen it, treat yourself.)

So, I patiently await DVDs of some choice shows I attended like Hendrix in Feb 68, The Who in August 68, or Buddy Guy and the Allmans Jan 1970.  This is a huge project and worth doing right.
