    Concert Vault FAQ is needed

    MrBB:
Seasons Greetings All, I'm one of the fortunate archivists/sound engineers involved in this massive undertaking. I thought I'd drop in to say hello and slightly expand on a few things already said. The sheer magnitude of the Bill Graham/Wolfgang's Vault recording archive is still unfathomable for us, so it's no surprise that some of you are overwhelmed and have questions. Welcome to the club!   Like some of the more outspoken fans of The Doors and Led Zep, you may wonder why the delay in featuring certain concerts or certain artists.   Beyond the issues of quality control that were already addressed, we also simply have a long way to go. It will be some time before everything has been listened to, let alone accurately identified, professionally transferred and catalogued. In the case of our more vintage recordings from The Fillmores, Winterland, etc, we're primarily dealing with analog half track and quarter track open reel masters. There are tape restoration and digital conversion issues and basically a boatload of meticulous and incredibly fascinating work still to do.

I've greatly truncated Mr BB's post, if you'd like to read the whole thing, follow this link.  Even though I've been logging on to the Concert Vault since the first or second day it became available to the public, I just found and read this post, dated 12/20/06, for the first time today.  It gives a wonderful insight into some of what is going on behind the scenes at Wolfgang's Vault.

I think one of the things the Concert Vault is missing is a faq page.  Mr BB's post would be a great one to include as a response to the question "Why is my favorite group not included in the Concert Vault?" or somthing like that.  Among other questions I'm sure that are obvious to all the CV folks, another frequently asked question  is "Does the Vault pay royalties on the music it plays?"  I know the answer to this is on the CV home page, but a lot of people seem to miss that information.

I'm not going to try to list a lot of other questions to include, I mostly just wanted to suggest the need for a faq and also that Mr BB's post, which is hidden among 840 other posts in the Concert Vault Feedback thread should be given a lot more prominence than it has now.  (I'm sure that there are other posts by various CV folks for which this also could be said.)
