Re: Santana show from July 4, 1971

Yeah, saw that WV just put back the 11/05/66 set.  I agree with you regarding the removed, 11/68 show. Incidently, the "Mona", Maiden of the Cancer Moon", Calvary" portion of that VERY show is heard on their live Happy Trails album. However, it sounds stronger, more live, crisper on WV, than the "airbrushed",  more sanitized live-to-studio re-mix put out by Capitol Records. Again, it's a mystery. Are there a bunch of QMS Fillmore tapes lying about never listened to - what's up.WV?  I hope you've still got some gems up your sleeves you'll release to the world. Heads up, on both the 12/67 and 6/68 sets, you list, "Your Time Will Come". That tune is a Mose Allison cover actually called "If You Live". Please correct the song title listing. Also, you credit bass player, vocalist Dave Freiberg with viola. That was a very rare instance. He only played viola on one song, "The Fool", from their first album called "Quicksilver Messenger Service" - viola was not an instrument he normally played. When QMS played the "The Fool" at a live gig, Freiberg would playback a tape of himself on the viola, while singing and playing bass.  He's not playing viola on any of the three QMS sets you've got on the site. For accuracy sake, please credit Freiburg as bass and vocals, sans viola.

Please trust my veracity. I attended most of the Quicksilver, Dead, Airplane, Big Brother, and other great shows, at both the Fillmore and the Avalon from the '66 to '68 period. As I stated in an earlier post, Quicksilver's finest days, or make that nights - performing - were right after Jim Murray's departure, 10/67 thru mid/late '68. I'm HOPING WV has more sets from that period with better audio. If you do, It'll be really worth combing the vault for, WVer's - for you... and your audience. If you haven't exhausted your search, PLEASE keep looking. Again, if you've got it, you may be amazed at what of QMS you'll discover - worth it.

    Peace
