    Re: Concert Vault Feedback

I truly love what you're doing - some awesome stuff!!! - but you've been giving Quicksilver Messenger Service a bit of short shrift. I was at many of those Fillmore and Avalon (Family Dog) concerts from '66 and on, and QMS was regarded as more musically advanced and talented than the Airplane and at LEAST (or more) innovative than the Dead by the people who actually saw them live - 66' to 68' timeframe. With the many, many concerts the Quick played at the Fillmore, it's rather odd that you have only two of their shows up. That 12/31/67 concert has atrociously bad audio. The 6/7/68  show has some tracks where Cipollina's guitar is barely audible. The last two songs "Back Door Man" and "Gold and Silver" are found on the Quicksilver bootleg album "Maiden of the Cancer Moon" from the SAME Fillmore East gig as on your site.  It happened to be one of their worst nights. The 11/68 QMS show you recently dropped from the Vault had great ratings; I assume you had a good reason to remove it. PLEASE make every effort to check out ALL QMS shows and get some more up. You (and your audience) just might be a litle surprised - in a good way. It'll be worth the effort.
PLEASE get this message to the attention of the man - Mr. Bill Sagan. QMS is one of the most UNDESERVEDLY, unsung bands of all time. With the advent of the Vault - LET THOSE BOYS BE HEARD... NOW!!!

PS For example, drummer Greg Elmore's standard kit had two foot pedal bass drums like Keith Moon's. Elmore could play ten minute drum solos, sounding like multiple horses galloping at different speeds. He could keep the poly-rhythms together, syncopated, amazingly - and made people's heads spin with his chops. Keith Moon's head would have spinned if he had witnessed it. The twin guitar virtuosity and range of  John Cipollina and Gary Duncan were unmatched by any of the known San Francisco bands - or virtually any band, period, then or now.

ALL THE BEST TO THE VAULT - MAY YOU PROSPER!!!
