Per the suggestion of someone below, I listened to the opening remarks by Chuck Berry. Oh yeah. I think Chuck was slipped (or accepted) a little Owsley before the show. He is seeing things in the old Fillmore that I never saw.
Whoever wrote the review of this show guesses that the back-up band is the Steve Miller Band (Steve Miller Blues Band at that time) and I don't think it is, as they were not on the bill. But they were his back-up band for a show later in the year when they were on the same bill, as my friends were there and reported this. I believe that would be the show that was put on vinyl as Chuck Berry Live at the Fillmore, a great album.
