Thanks for including the Bloomfield and Friends version of "Born in Chicago." For those who want a little background: The song was written by Nick Gravenites, who is the singer for this group, and first recorded by the Paul Butterfield Blues Band in 1965 for their self-titled Electra album. Bloomfiled was on loan for that album, but join the group right after and they went on to record East-West before Bloomfield left to form the Electric Flag (Gravenites was the lead singer for that short-lived group). The version here is totally different than the original; here, Bloomfield is onto a jazzy riff and the lead is reminscent of the lead on the song East-West. BTW, East-West, IMO, is one of the best albums ever made and if you don't believe it, buy it and crank it up. One more note: Butterfield's original keyboardist, Mark Naftalin plays on this jam too. He went on to host a weekly blues show in the Bay Area and brought many performers to the public, including giving John Lee Hooker lots of exposure.
