It may surprise you that we do, in fact, attempt to adhere to a standard for alphabetization. Most music sites and library managers (including iTunes) list artists by first name / last name; as that is what most people are familiar with when cataloging music we follow that.
Thanks for pointing out A Flock of Seagulls, we'll fix that.
As to categories (or genres, if you will), rather than do it ourselves we are planning to introduce user tagging features later this year to allow listeners to tag shows, which we think will lead to a more complete ability to do what you'd like.
