In addition to what DRaftervoi is saying, and in response to Gtrzn's mention of a Rundgren song he thought might be called "City of my dreams...Utopia" - the song I think Gtrzn is asking about is "Utopia Theme" which is a single live track on the 1974 release, "Todd Rungren's Utopia" - a great song and a great album!! The live album "Another Live" was a single LP, also a very good album. It sounds like you're pretty familiar with Rundgren so you probably already know this, but Rundgren was doing "pop" long before he got Utopia together - remember Nazz? Remember the album "Runt" and "We gotta get you a woman"? Pure pop, as is lots of the material on "Something/Anything". Rundgren has done and continues to do a lot of very innovative music, but pop is part of his ancestory and shows up from time to time in whatever he is doing.
Saw him the other night in Columbus Ohio doing a very heavy guitar oriented show - excellent, and "Black Maria" was one of the standouts! Kasin Sulton and Prairie Prince were both in the band. Rundgren is one of those 30-year-plus rock acts that still has his chops!!
Rundgren is releasing a series of archival live shows, several of which date back to 1978 - I would love to get some of the shows from the first tour with Utopia - i saw them onthis tour, and as I recall,t he band was Todd on guitar and keyboards, two additional keyboard players, including Moogy Klingman, and a bass player and drummer. When they did "The Ikon", it was incredible!!
