    cream at oakland

This sounds much better than i remember it live. How was it recorded? The opening act was " Its A Beautiful Day". They were on fire that night!  Did you record them?

    Re: cream at oakland

I'd be interested to hear the response to this question as the concert (along with the other concerts, LA Forum on the 18th, 19th and San Diego on the 20th) we professionally recorded by Cream's management for official release. As it turned out, only 3 tracks were officially released from the Oakland performance (the rest were too badly performed) and 3 from LA Forum concert on the 19th (don't know why the rest from these later concerts weren't released).

What the Vault seem to be playing are the official releases as well as other tracks for the Oakland concert from a well known bootleg which appears to be have been made off the original professional recordings.

I don't think these are recordings made by the late, great Bill Graham but I'd appreciate more information on these and any other recordings the Vault have of this fanstistic band as it's severely under-represented on the live recordings front.

    Re: cream at oakland

I see that it has gone quite some time since the latest post. I have the bootleg from that show and it says how it was recorded. The reason to why anyone hasn't replied yet is probably because they don't have a clue how it was recorded. I am quite sure that's the case with many other concerts here at the vault. But anyway here's the link to the text, it’s a bit blurry but I think you can read what it says.

Who is this "Jack Straw" dude, and why does he sound so much like Mr. Roboto?

(And for that matter, why does Mr. Roboto sound so much like a broken record?  (Does that question show my age or what????)

    Re: cream at oakland

The Oakland concert is the only complete show that exists in the vaults. If you add the tracks here to the 3 that appear on "Live Cream Vol. 2" you have the whole show from 10/04/68. Of the other concerts that were recorded in March and October 1968, all the multi-track tapes were destroyed in the tape archive fire in 1976. Only the selected tracks that were mixed down and released on WOF and the two live albums survive. At some point, the remaining tracks from the LA shows were given a rough mix and became the source for the various bootlegs you see.

The Oakland show was the first show of the farewell tour and the guys hadn't seen each other in 3 months..at one point, Ginger apologizes to the crowd for "being rusty!"

    Re: cream at oakland

Some of this show is positively stunning, and some is horrendous.
"Passing The Time" (the drum solo song, instead of "Toad" )
    is painful.

Still,I'm thrilled it's here at the Vault.
Here's hoping they get more live Cream.
