I urge you to consider a lossless format, like FLAC. Most bands that offer concerts online make them available as MP3 AND lossless. Even if you charge a premium for the better quality, people will want to hear the music in its pristine state. I really hope you can offer these shows in both versions. Thanks again and look forward to spending a lot of money at the Vault.

    Makes perect sense.

Let's be honest here offering just MP3's will be a waste of time.  We all know it and you guys at Wolfgangs Vault know it.

I'm looking forward to being able to download concerts as well. Format wise, my ears ring so much, I can tell the difference between formats. Gimme the cheap stuff please!!

    Re: Downloads Done Right

This is the first real cool music site i've ever seen. The content is great and the way you're marketing the music is the right way !
MP3 is just fine for me - with variable high bitrates (no 128KBit/s stuff)

    Re: Downloads Done Right

    No mp3 please.

I want lossless files (FLAC or SHN) or directly a CD with the untampered audio.

mp3 is not an audiophile format, and in addiction we have the annoying gaps between all tracks, that is very annoying in a live recording.

Just compress the audio into FLAC files and torrent them, it's easy and safe.

    Re: Downloads Done Right

While many of the original source tapes were never in "pristine CD quality" or have degenerated, I think it is important to let us consumers purchase and listen to the music in as good a quality as possible. This means the use of lossless formats (FLAC has been mentioned in other posts); you will never convince me that something that deliberately disregards sound information considered to be of little importance (like MP3 does) can sound as good as something in which all input is used. Why else would audio purists go for higher sampling rates, HDCD, etc?

I agree with you that avoiding use of DRM code is essential, as it is basically worthless in preventing copying anyway.

Cheer's indeed! Thanks so very much for allowing the Vault's exceptional collection to be purchased.

The current 'music industry' is a dinosaur facing inevitable extinction by its failure to adapt. Those in the trench's..the writers, performers, technicians and promotors face a vibrant future. Those at their desks on the top floor will soon find they are no longer a part of the processs.

We can only smile and bid these arbiters of culture a fond farewell.

    Re: Downloads Done Right

of course you can convert mp3 to wave but that doesn't change what it is; lossy.wave has full frequencies and when converted to a lossless medium, will convert back fully.if you convert a perfectly good signal to mp3,you just chopped off the top, every from 15k and up.once that's done, you can't go back.you can't make a silk purse...

Everything will be fine mp3 too, you always can convert mp3 files to WAV to burn a CD and keep the mp3 file in your computer. Hope to download soon at a good price, I never downloaded illegally if you enjoy the music you don't steal the artists. I'am 50 years old and I  enjoy the muisic since 1971. PayPal payment will be perfect fast and safe for both

    Re: Downloads Done Right

Being able to listen to the shows on this site is a real treat...having them available for download, right on!!! Available only in MP3...bummer!!! I would think the FLAC format option would be a given, especially with the product were dealing with here. You really can't compare the two formats. If you listen on a high end system or good pair of headphones, you really appreciate the superior format of FLAC. I have not and will not download the lesser quality MP3 format. I will always stream the shows however. I really would spend a considerable amount of money downloading shows from this site if they are made available in the higher quality format.......Grassman

    Re: Downloads Done Right

I'm glad to see that lossless is coming.  So, I'll wait 'till that happens to puchase anything.

I'm 100% NOT interested in paying for mp3s...

(crosses fingers that Ozzy+Randy will be offered as a lossless download)

I'd really like to buy the Tubes 1974 concert. WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO OFFER LOSSLESS? I WILL NOT PAY FOR MP3.

    Re: Downloads Done Right

I'll be happy to pay full fare for just about any lossless format Roxy Music concert.
And if I feel like a bit of trashy fun one day I'll even plunk down a few bucks for a discount mp3 Slade show.

    So give me both!

I made the following post in another Concert Vault forum a while back but didn't get any replies, so I thought I'd post it again here:

    **************************************************************************

I'm one of those who've said they'd prefer lossless to mp3.  I have to admit though, I've purchased two shows now (both Record Plant recordings) and the sound quality is really good.  I'll admit I'm not an audiophile (by nature, not desire mind you,) I've never been able to detect that LPs have a warmer sound than CDs, for example.  We have 700-800 LPs in our collection, a good turntable (Linn Basik) and good speakers, so it isn't for lack of opportunity to hear said difference.  What I would really be interested in is if one of the "lossless or nothing" folks would purchase one show and give it an unbiased  listen.  I'm not saying "try it, you'll like it," rather, I'd appreciate an honest opinion of the sound quality of  the Vault's 256Kbps mp3 files from someone who has such strong feelings regarding lossless vs. mp3.

    ***************************************************************************

Sorry for the summer re-run ;-) and thanks in advance to anyone who would be willing to take up my request.
