    Six whole nights!!!

I would love to have seen how inventive Hendrix was live, and over six nights no less!

these sets are so phenomenal! I can not imagine what an experience it must have been to see hendrix live.... What guitarist today even comes close to his staggering level of talent??

You said it LM, what an experience... (no pun intended?).  I like how he had guest musicians in both of the 10/11 sets, because most footage of the experience has just the 3 members. The hamond organ sounds great on the late show. And there's a funny part in the early show just before Hendrix plays Voodoo Chile, when the crowd starts screaming at the people in the front to "sit down!!" and hendrix tells them to "sit down and get it together people...".  Classic!

Yeah, Dantana, that's probably the coolest part of this being able to revisit this live footage- the little exchanges between performer and audience...the crowd must have been going nuts!!

    HI,

The Winterland shows were only 3 nights, Oct. 10th,11th and 12th, 1968. There were 2 shows each night.

Nobody does!  Now, when I get into an argument about the best guitarist ever, I'll just refer the fool I'm arguing with to Wolfgang's Concert Vault and have them listen to Jimi.  Too bad they don't have any Buddy Guy to go with him.

I have most of the Hendrix official releases-the best being his live box set.The best treasure trove is the Experience Hendrix web site run by his surviving family members (his sister,I think) where there are numerous bootlegs available, including Calrk University in Worcester,Ma/Paris ,France and numerous
studio outtakes.I just saw a box set of all 6 of these WInterland shows advertised in the English magazine "Classic Rock",the best magazine in the world for my money for all things hard rock.

    One night in 1967....

My very VERY first live concert 'experience' - I was 13 in '67, and my mom drove me and best pal from Bristol TN to Greensboro NC to see The Monkees [a very big deal for a kid that summer, as it was an all day trip on those old highways.  It was litterally a 'guilt trip' because my parents had refused to take me to see The Beatles the year before. 'Next time they tour, for sure' was what they said, but check the Fabs history...........]  Well, Jimi and Co. opened the show, and I remember standing slack jawed, thinking 'what is this crazy man doing????"  Then the headliners came on, and 'beatlemaniamania' and it was really a great show, for a kid to see.   But then soon after that concert I was in a Piggly Wiggly supermarket, and saw an album by the JHE, and remembered the wild man at the concert, so I bought it [$1.67 or so was the grocery store price]. First real rock record, till then it was Beatles, Monkees, Raiders, maybe the Stones. But the night in Greensboro [and the day in Piggly Wiggly] - true fork in the road!

    Still got the stub!!!

    cheers,

    FOTR

    Re: Six whole nights!!!

I saw Jimi live at Brown University in Providence, RI.  As I remember it, it was in a small gym and there were not that many people there.  I think we stood about 15-20 feet from the stage and it was unbelievable.  I didn't know much about him at the time but a friend talked me into going and am I glad he did.  I am quite a celebrity with my daughters friends because I can say that I saw Jimi live!

He did some stuff that I think he dropped later in his career.  Things like playing with his teeth, lighting his guitar on fire and smashing it at the end.  It was the experience of a lifetime.  Oh I miss the 60's!

I wish I could get my hands on one picture from that concert.

You might want to refer that person to the Band Of Gypsys December 31, 1969-January 1, 1970!
