    Skynyrd @ Winterland?

Will the April 27, 1975 or March 10, 1976 Winterland performances of Lynyrd Skynyrd be loaded into the concert vault?  Those are two shows that I've only heard bits and pieces of, but, what I've heard from them are FANTASIC!  I'd also really love to hear all of the July 4, 1977 Day on the Green show that they did.

I agree, I went to both those shows at Winterland, and the band was as tight as any band I had ever seen. I have seen  Freebird at the Day On The Green, and it's always good to relive shows, as I was always in an altered state back then, heh heh.

I'm unaware of any status on the 1975 and 76 shows at present, but we did recently turn up a partial recording of that 4th of July 1977 performance. Unfortunately, the tape only contained the last 22 minutes of the Skynyrd set and the first few songs of the Frampton set which followed. Further investigation will hopefully turn up additional tape before too long. We're on it.

In the meantime, KBFH's recordings of Skynyrd's Cardiff, Wales set just went up on the Concert Vault. Have a listen and enjoy, MrBB

I was at the Winterland show and remember vividly the KILLER tone Allen Collins was getting. It was before they switched to Peavey amplifiers and he was playing a Firebird through Marshalls.Incredible tone and one of the real great shows.

As far as I know, Skynyrd only played 3 tracks that day - Workin' for MCA, Sweet Home Alabama, and Freebird...  So that might be a complete tape, however I'm not sure...

Oh, if that tape has Freebird on it - is it the complete version, and not the hacked up one that was put out commercially on "Freebird... the Movie?"  I've always wanted to see/hear that one in full!

Thanks for all these cool shows!

    Sean.

    Re: Skynyrd @ Winterland?

The "Freebird" is complete and intact on Bill Graham's 4th of July 1977 recording.

The recording we found so far begins in progress with "T For Texas" and continues with "Sweet Home Alabama" and then "Freebird" to close the set. After that, it continues with the beginning of Peter Frampton's set, which followed Skynyrd's set.

I believe you are mistaken about them only playing three songs that day. We'll continue looking for the rest of it.
Thanks for taking the time to ask and for your interest. It's always appreciated! MrBB

    Re: Skynyrd @ Winterland?

i find the concert of skynyrd from england [i think] really sloppy and dull..it sounds as if they are bored, drunk,or really hung over..'.one more from the road ' blows this out of the water!

I would also like to see the Day on the Green show. The soundtrack from "Freebird: The Movie" has only one song from that show (Freebird). The rest of the movie was from Knebworth opening for the Stones.

Re: Skynyrd @ Winterland?/Day on the Green

Didnt they do "Day on the Green" in 75 also? If so, I can't imagine these boys only playing 2 or 3 songs. Also, Grahmn knew their potential and was brilliant. Hopefully we'll have access to the full concerts from both here and the Winterland Shows. There are boots around for Winterland (black and white and dark) but have not seen the entire Day on the Green. Also does anyone know where to get the entire Knebworth show? Ive seen one hour of it then the tape stopped. Killer. Ronnie is hammering on Jack, smoking cigs and the audience is going nuts. They should have put that whole thing in the freebird memory. I saw these guys in 76 at the civic center in st. paul. awesome. Ronnie "We're about half drunk now, how about you?" has he hammered off the jack. A big snow storm was outside too. If anyone has rare stuff, lets talk.

    later.

This would be very good. The concert at Wales is raw Skynyrd. Great stuff

Well, it's been about a year since I last asked about the DOTG show...  The posting of the '75 Winterland show sparked my interest once more.  So, have there been any new developments on finding some more Skynyrd from within the vaults?

    Re: Skynyrd @ Winterland?

I'm also interested in updates on Skynyrd.

The day on the Green sounds enticing, many of the Skynyrd shows in the vault also have accompanying video.  Winterland '75, '76 and Day on the Green '77.  Day on the Green looked great on "Freebird the movie" and the clip of "Gimme Back My Bullets" from Winterland '76 was a vast improvement in both sound and video quality over what commonly circulates.  It would be great to see all of this stuff.

Is there any plans to bring videos to the vault in the future?  Some of the stuff there could really knocka Skynyrd fans socks off!
