I have just made a Paul Butterfield Blues Band performer forum for you, and moved this thread into that forum.

If you read Bill Graham's autobiography (a great book by the way) you know that Butterfield did a lot of shows for Graham. So let's hear some.

    Amen to that!

East West is one of my all-time favorites.

I was a 15 year old and had just moved to Hanover, NH with my family in 1967.  My first walk into town was on a Friday night, and I went into the MUB, Dartmouth College's student union building.  There was some music coming out of Spaulding Auditorium (one of the most accoustically perfect rooms in the country) and I wandered up to the door.  Out burst a couple who were ranting about how awful the band was and they threw their tickets into a trashcan.  I grabbed a ticket and went in and sat down to see the most influential concert of my life.  It was the Butterfield Blues Band touring in support of 'In My Own Dream'.  Bugsy Maugh doing I got my Mojo, Gene Dinwiddy with his throat in Gillespyism playing his heart out, and Paul cranking his harp.  It totally blew me away, and I was changed forever.

I have over 350 concert tickets at home now, and I still consider this show in my top 3 of all time.  It was awesome.

Since the Butterfield Band was part of the musical dna of the time ('65-'67 and into the '70's) the scene (Filmore et al) and a vital connection with past (Muddy, W. Dixon, W. Jacobs) masters and the outpouring of the likes of The Electric Flag, Janis Joplin, The Loading Zone, and many others, then the vaults must be holding Butterfield shows that need to be available for fans and for American musical history. The '65 P Butterfield B B album cuts raw and authentic from the opening Born in Chicago to the closing Yonders Wall, with not one mistep. The followup, East West takes it up a notch to blazing and throws in the extended play and improv of Work Song and the expansive and psychedelic East West. Especially influential is the later use of horns by Butterfield and by Mike Bloomfield. Bring out the shows!
