Epic shows. That 78 run was amazing. My first show was at
the Paramount in Seattle in June. After an hour and a half I was stunned. Then
Bruce says, we’re taking a break now, we’ll be back for the second half in a
little while. At the point where most shows were going to the
beg-us-for-an-encore phase, Bruce was only getting warmed up. My friend looked
at me and said, “ok, now you get it.”
My favorite part of these shows was the medley tied to She’s
the One. Sometimes it included Not Fade Away, usually Mona.
When another date was announced for December I remember
being excited all fall. The appetizer was this radio broadcast. I recall having
the huge headphones on, flipping tapes, trying to grab some of the show. Access
to live recordings was almost nil. That’s what makes this Vault thing so
amazing. It’s all there.
Then there was the 12/20 show at the hockey arena in
Seattle. We took the Monorail from downtown to avoid the traffic. It was the
last show before the tour broke for Christmas. I remember the mile long guitar
cords. “Wasn’t the Bruce who just ran past us?” Pretty Flamingo. How can a band
be loose and tight at the same time? Santa did come to town. And when the
encores were over and we were almost to the doors, we heard a roar. We ran back
in. And there was Bruce flinging pizza into the crowd. He started Rave On,
acappela while the roadies ran out to switch the amps back on. The band
straggled out throwing pizza at Bruce. And when it was really over the PA
announced that the Monorail was still running. At 1:30 in the morning.
Everybody’s got their stories. Thank you Vaultkateers.

Hi there, I was just listening to the Bruce Springsteen live in Winterland from 1978. This is really a great site, theses performances are golden. I have heard some rumors that a 3 camera black and video recording of this show exists. Is there any way to verify this information with the vault? Surely, that footage must exist somewhere...

I saw Bruce and the band just days before this Winterland show when they played in St. Paul, MN. Listening to this tonight reminds me I've GOT to look up the guy who called me, like, the day before the show and asked me if I wanted tickets. Truly, one of the great experiences of my 54 year life (which has had a lot of great experiences). My only complaint is the the audio quality -- it SUCKS compared to, for instance, the Who concert from 1968 or the Allman Brothers concert from 1971. Can anything be done about this? Thanks so much for making this material available for our listening joy!

Hello,
This show was at Winterland in San Francisco. Back in those days Bill Graham's staff videotaped most of the shows. When one would attend a concert at Winterland a video of a previously recorded show would play before the show on a large pull down screen or blank surface behind the stage.
The videos were in black and white. At that time they provided a bit of entertainment before the show. Now, the idea of not only hearing, but seeing some of those old classic shows is very exciting.
The fellow that purchased this stuff from Bill Graham's estate supposedly has all the videos and is currently working with the artists to somehow release it (a commercial venture I would guess.) I recently purchased a Kiss live retrospective from 1973-1978 and it includes a concert from Winterland (probably one of these old video taped shows.)

The Boss at the Cleveland Agora August 9, 1978
I have heard the famous Winterland Concert of Bruce it's good, but NOT as good as Bruce's concert at the Cleveland Agora, recorded from a WMMS simulcast on Aug 9, 1978. "Growing Up" in Cleveland, blows the doors off the version from Winterland. Also, if anyone knows where I can get a pristine sounding Aug 9, 1978 concert of Bruce from the Cleveland Agora. Pleas eely me know. I was hoping Wolfgang would have it.

Re: The Boss at the Cleveland Agora August 9, 1978
Hey tribe/cavs,I'dlike to hear the show from Georgetownes' McDonough Arena{cir;'77-'78}it was similar to the Vaults' show in terms of song selection, but I'd swear we got even more songs.Definately "Kittys' Back"&3or4 encores!I went in a semi-skeptic&came away transformed.I'm not all Bruce all the time{or any one else for that matter}but I do know a great musician/band when I see/hear him/them.[Whew}.Can't see how any one could dis the Boss, the man &Band ----thats' DEDICATION TO MUSIC&FANS
Anyhoo,Thanks for reading::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::GTRZAN
ps.:maybe V.R. could finangle some full length songs from MAXs'Band on Conan!?

Thanks willie! That's what I thought. Would be nice to have a commercial release, but by the it will probably be heavily edited. :-/
Best show of the tour IMO was the concert in Passaic, September 19th, 1978, broadcasted on NY's WNEW (gone now).

I do believe that I have that for you - let me do some more checking, and I will privately e-mail you what I do have. Hope I don't let you down. Just another skinny little boy . . .
Just to let you know, this thing may list me as someone different than who I am - I have no idea how this happened, but oh well! You can always send e-mail to me at tuva714@yahoo.com

Hey!
Just joined in...great site! I agree with you on that Passaic show. Caught it on 'NEW, and I caught the Palladium show a day or 2 earlier, along with the Garden shows in NYC. Absolutely in my top 5 alltime. If you get a chance, get a hold of the boot from 7/7/78 in L.A. Quality is superb, show is off the hook! Now with all the technology, we'll start seeing some of these 8mm come to digital life ala Hammersmith.

Re: The Boss at the Cleveland Agora August 9, 1978
I had a recording that I taped from the radio but had it stolen from my car (WMMS replayed the 1978 show again in 1979).
Any chance that you may have a copy?
Thanks from Ohio...
