    Much love!
I have just created a performer forum for the Mothers of Invention, and moved this thread there.
    Thanks!

Brother, that ain't love. The review you have up for your MOI show is pretty shallow: "An appreciation for this performance depends entirely on one’s threshold for long and noodly instrumental explorations accented by *** jokes."  That's not just a 2-dimensional simplification of the work of a genius, it's TOTAL POOP.  Can I have a crack at re-writing your review (no offense intended if you yourself wrote it, ROBOTO)?  I don't work cheap, but I'll do this fo' free.

    Sorry to ***.

    Re: Mothers of Invention/Frank Zappa

I've been a huge Zappa fan since '75, and I have to say that I think the review is probably the most accurate description of the Mothers, their music and one of their shows I've ever read.  I've tried turning other people onto the Mothers by slipping them albums like "Burnt Weeny Sandwich" or "Uncle Meat" or "Weasels Ripped My Flesh" amidst ones like "One Size Fits All" or "Zoot Allures" or "Sheik Yerbouti' and most people can't handle the Mothers in their full glory. They find his music just too weird to understand. Frank is a terribly underappreciated musician/composer, and I would like to see more Mothers and Zappa shows, maybe even some of Dweezil's "Zappa Plays Zappa" tour.  By the way, this is a fantastic thing you have created here. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

    Re: Mothers of Invention/Frank Zappa

Quite agree. Been a MOI/Zappa fan since '72 when I encountered "Just Another Band From L.A." Been a "freak" ever since. If I've learned one thing, though, about the music of the original MOI, it's that you either love it or hate it. No in between. Zappa seems to have that effect on listeners (though some can be tricked at times). Still, "Uncle Meat" has got to be the masterpiece of the original MOI. I still return to that album again and again. But speaking of the Fillmore show, I don't think the audio alone brings alive the theatrics of that vaudvillesque Mothers band. I really don't think people today understand what it was that Zappa and gang were getting at between '70 and '72.

    Re: Mothers of Invention/Frank Zappa

Been a Zappa fan since 1968.  Agree with your assement of FZ and his genius.  Weirdness has been a term applied to Frank over the years and is a bit unjust.  Listening to his music is analagous to going to a restaurant and getting everything on the menu.  It's a lot to digest in one sitting.  Taking him in samll bites helps.  My favs are Burnt Weeny Sandwich and Hot Rats.  But all his albums are great.

Would love to see more Zappa concerts on the Vault.  But I would have to disagree with putting the Zappa Plays Zappa tour concerts on here.  FZ concerts were special.  They were works in progress.  FZ would change/rearrange/improvise the band on the spot.  Having been involved with Zappa's Universe I can attest that it just wasn't the same without the big guy.  The tributes are nice and they help people steer people to the original material, but other than that... Why get the also rans when you can have the original?

It's like remaking Citizen Kane without Orson's Welles' input.  Who needs it?

I'm not putting down Dweezil and the band.  I appreciate that he is opening up peoples minds to his dad's music.  But not on Concert Vault please.

I'm sure Dweezil had his own live concerts not playing his Dad's music.  Put those on instead.

    Re: Mothers of Invention/Frank Zappa

Frank definitely needs more representation.  He was brilliant.  The mid-70s group was probably the best, the one that featured George Duke and Ruth Underwood.  In my view they far-surpassed the early incarnations of the Mothers in terms of musical quality.  There was also more focus with this group, and less of the on-stage joking around.  Volume 2 of You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore has this group playing in Helsinki in 1974, and it's one of the best live sets I've ever heard.  Not to mention the album "Roxy and Elsewhere."  More of this music needs to be heard.

    Re: Mothers of Invention/Frank Zappa

Sure there should be more FZ here.
& this single show is NOT representative of anything except the 'Flo & Eddie' band.
However, this is a very important show in that there have been several bootleg recordings out there & the actual date & venue has been hotly contested for years.
I hope that Wolfgang's stamp is accurate as it would resolve some of these long standing questions.
& I agree, the description of FZ's music seemed lacking - but that may be because I have a much higher opinion of him than a truly objective description should have.  When I try to think from their perspecitve, I feel they have done a pretty good job.

I hope they can offer up more FZ (& others) - thanks Wolfgang's

Lumpy Gravy was my intro to Frank and the Mothers...outstanding! Then along came 200 Motels a while later.I'm sorry to say I never had the opportunity to see him until the Coast Guard had me in the early 70's.I was lucky enough to be close to William and Mary College when LO! and Behold ,there he was ! By far my fav is Apostrophe and Roxie and Elsewhere, unfortunately my copy of Roxie was lost in one of my moves. Can anyone find it ? Send it to me free? I'm old now and BROKE ! I've been jonesing for more than 35 years.
