    Site Redesign

As we announced last week, we have designed and are in the process of building out a new look for Wolfgang’s Vault.

The new design will integrate the five components of our site (Vault Store, Concert Vault, Country Music Vault, Crawdaddy! and Mojam) under a common interface and feature a new search engine that will return results for all sites on one easily viewed page.

We’ve posted a couple of screen shots below to give you a taste for what we are working on. The first screen shot presents the new home page for Wolfgang’s Vault and the second is the redesigned Vault Store:

Next week, we’ll post the new Concert Vault design and provide some additional information on the audio updates we have planned.

    Cheers!

    Re: Site Redesign

    Hi Wolfgang!

Love your site, but the screenshots of the redesign don't seem to offer much improvement or clarity.  I think the use of color can enhance navigation, but the proposed color choices are not really that clear.  Maybe you could give people the option of clicking on a mock-up screen to see it full size, which might make it easier to judge.  Just a thought!

    Keep up the great work.

    Re: Site Redesign

What's unclear about it? It's as easy to navigate as any web site I've ever seen, and frankly, I didn't think it needed a lot of improvement. It's not there to "judge", but rather to provide an interface from which to access the real content of the site... The music. This site was sent to me by my wife's boss (a dentist), and I for one think it's awesome. Hats off to Wolfgang for having the intestinal fortitude to risk very valuable time and resources on this venture! I hope it gets huge.

    Re: Site Redesign

I hope they do not go crazy redesigning the site.  Sometimes too much becomes complicated and you spend time finding things or cannot.  If it is a matter of adding menus that redirect you to, say, concerts, shirts, posters, etc., then that is fine.  Just do not make it where we have to figure out where things have been put.

My biggest wait is The Cream concert that was used for Wheels Of Fire.  I want to hear the unedited version of Crossroads.  I understand that it is about 11 minutes long.  I also want to hear Hot Tuna with Bob Steeler and more of The Jefferson Airplane and The Doors.  I really don't mind paying.

One future thought would be to make a variety of DVD sets.  Have two DVD's and a little booklet in an 8x10 box.  Have some Fillmore pictures in it with the entire concert.  The charge could be about $24.99.

    Re: Site Redesign

Site looks fine to me; zooming in gave me a better look at so the click-to-view suggestion would give you more input.  I just want to thank you for the times I listen to concerts - noT too often but a real joy.  You keep the spirit of Bill Graham alive in the truest sense.  Thank you so much!

    Re: Site Redesign

As far as I am concerned, just having the opportunity to listen to these shows is enough, it could be a white screen w/ hyperlinks to the concerts....who cares as long as the content is there!!!!!!!

You can debate colors and options all day long, but if you are truly interested in hearing a show that hasn't seen the light of day in decades, you would take the time to figure it out......(I know I would)

    Re: Site Redesign

Thanks for the comments.  We definitely won't be losing the "New in the Concert Vault" feature or the links to get there.  We have tried to design this in a manner consistent with our current site so that everything should feel familiar while we add additional features.

    Re: Site Redesign

Hi!  For my first post on a forum here, let me submit one plea and one offer.

I deplore the trend in making all print size on all websites smaller and smaller every time a website is "improved."  Please do whatever it takes to keep the font size up!  I have perfectly good eyesight, but there's no point in straining it by squeezing too much into a single view.  Reducing the word count on the screen at any one time by even 10% or 20% makes a huge difference in legibility, because the clarity of a character of text increases exponentially as its height steps up.  So please abbreviate stuff however necessary, or restructure blank space!  For example, your screenshot portion listing "Top Rated Concerts" is less than 25% text and more than 75% blank space; all the same text could be a step or two bigger and would still fit there - much more legibly.

My offer is to get people like me (a former proofreader) to screen the text of the stuff you post so the English flows better.  For example, the Vault today, on Canned Heat:  The posting is full of great language like "bluesy barrelhouse keyboard flavorings", I'm devouring all the fascinating facts that I could never have unearthed myself, and even the spelling is perfect.  But mindless-sounding stumbles like using the cliche'  "much had changed in the previous decade" twice within a few sentences makes the reader stumble (or grimace).  And the thing that makes me actually write this is the terribly unfortunate sentence "The loss of these two great talents and champions of the blues cannot be underestimated ..." - which insults them when praise ("overestimated") is intended.  Two pairs of eyes are better than one.  Lots of people might join me in offering that second pair, to check stuff out before posting!

    Re: Site Redesign

I love this site. It brings me endless joy but after the last re-design the player opened in a separate window and my IT guy blocked the stream. It would be great if you reintegrated  some portion of the site into the web page so i can have the music to keep the day job from driving me crazy.

    Re: Site Redesign

Count me in for that. Sounds great. By the way I saw Cream when they first played the Fillmore and then again at Winterland the following year during the shows ued for Wheels of Fire. The couple of times I saw them in '67 was really something..not as good the second time around.
