Beach Boys @ Fillmore East 6/27/71

Show took place right at Brian's creative peak -- think of the complex vocal arrangements of Pet Sounds & Surf's Up -- too bad many layers are lost on the recording. Still interesting to hear the songs with a horn section.

Well, in truth this was at the beginning of Brian's problems. His peak was in '66. And I believe Dennis wasn't at this show, though the reviewer wrote he was. It's great to hear Bruce's version of "Your song" in such a good quality. I only knew some very bad versions of it before.

dennis was not present at this show. This was, for me atleast, the beginning of the best Beach boys live shows ever! from 71 to 74 they really rocked the house! none of that oldies bullshit or the squeaky clean striped shirts, just listen to help me rhonda if there was a soundtrack for hookin up with a drunk chick that you know that you will never see again THATS IT!

I had the great pleasure of seeing them live several times, but I agree the 71-74 years were the best. I saw them after the Holland album came out they were unreal. When they played Columbia SC Toni Tennille was also with them and Dennis was back.

Unlike the shows that followed around this time, Dennis Wilson was present at this particular show, but was unable to play drums, due to a hand injury. He was relegated to background vocals on this night and was replaced on drums by Mike Kowalski. Cheers, MrBB

Dig It! I saw the Boys at Notre Dame in 1973! Denny was on drums, Mike was wearing a white robe and turban, Bruce,Al,Carl..everyone was there..even Ricky fataar doubling on drums. Just before the gig started ,one of their roadies..from England..came up to my chick & I and we rapped about the group. He was from manchester,England. I have forgotten his name, but he was down to earth and cool. The gig was a standing room only according to the ushers. They soared!!  Peace...Surf's Up!
