    Metal:

Why do I get the distinct feeling, dear Reader, that this has sailed over your head like a frisbee on a hot, beer-soaked afternoon?

Perhaps because some of us, believe it or not, are only interested in buying concerts from WV for our own personal use.  If I buy music from WV, and I believe them when the tell me they're offering the music in a lossless format (I realize that's not going to be the initial case, but bear with me) then I don't need to worry about what Flossy is offering at Trader Whosits.  If I want to buy a good watch, I go to a reliable store, not to some guy in an alley who is saying "Pssst, buddy, wanna buy a good watch cheap?"

The trading is already happening, my friend, the degradation under way.  The longer the shows remain up on the Vault radio stream and as .mp3 downloads, the deeper the degradation.  As far as the Conspiracy of Hellishly Evil and Archfiendish Traders (CHEAT) reaches, we simply can't keep up with the lossy traders scrabbling underfoot.  For all the grief which discerning traders get, we are in fact going to be very valuable customers, although as you may have gathered, also very exacting ones.  Thinking bands, like Grateful Dead, understand utterly the value of competent traders to them, to the fan, and to the music.

If you buy from the original source, rather than "trading", you don't have to worry about what others have done in the interim.

Re: Sorry, But This Boat Won't Float

While legal minds far greater than mine sort out in the courts adjudicating WV's struggle with record labels just exactly what intellectual property is and which forms of trade are lawful and which are not, I won't presume to say who is right in this sub-debate.  The fact is, trading will persist.  The question is, would you rather a trading foundation of sand, or of concrete?  Or to put it in more practical terms, traders, who will make up a hefty portion of your (lossless) market, are as willing if not moreso than non-traders to pay good money (CHEAT hasn't figured out yet how to bootleg cash, but we're working on it) for good material.

Finally, if it please the Court, as this is my closing argument and farewell to this thread as it sinks into the depths of the archives (as far as my involvement), so long as there are bands farsighted enough to allow audience and soundboard recordings, there are traders.  Moreover, I am realistic and honest enough to maintain that so long as there is greater demand than supply of desired material, but insufficient to warrant continuing commercial production of that material, there are traders.  Thanks to them, the material is available to those willing to seek.

    Re: Downloads Coming in April

would definitely purchase some concerts. Lossless format would be best for me - unless you offer actual high-quality CD versions (I do not have an MP3 player and no actual CD burner). The CD format the most convenient otherwise, I will likely have to adapt to something else.

thanks for making these available !!
