    Re: Concert Vault Feedback

I've been listening to Vault Radio since it began and love it but this is just incredible. I'm going nuts jumping from show to show. The J. Geils band doing Serves You Right To Suffer almost had me meltdown. Listening to Laura Nyro always brings back good memories.

Shows I'd like to hear include Buffalo Springfield, CSNY 1969, and Traffic before 1970, Spirit, and Julie Driscoll,-Brian Auger and the Trinity. Thanks so much for this site

Amazing keep up the good work.  More from Canned Heat and Neil Young.

    Billiam:

The concern raised above also concerns me.  The audio quality is very spotty on some shows...I wonder if the live audience heard it this way, this was just a soundboard issue, or it's the way it went down on tape 40 years ago due to taping problems.

Unfortunately, the sound issues you hear are a result of problems with the original recordings (damaged tape reels, faulty speaker systems, recording from behind the stage etc.). While every effort has been made to ensure the best audio quality possible, we feel that the importance of the shows outweighs the odd moments of bad sound.

    Re: Getting there

Thanks for the response.  I have just finished listening to the rest of the Electric Flag evening show and the sound really improves.  For example, on "Lie To Me" the balance is good and I can hear Harvey Brooks bass which I cannot on other tunes.  I am sure my home computer system will also improve this sound. As a Vault listener for months and in awe of what you have, I had a feeling that all the bad mixes and other audio problems were probably going to be something we have to live with. Heck, the state of recording and live sound then was definitely not what it was to become.  Even the Dead's vaunted "wall of sound" would soon be passe.   But, if this sound is on a DVD, all is forgiven (well, almost all). To see the passion of Mike Bloomfield when he was on stage at this point in his career will be a real, real treat.  His life after the Flag was certainly checkered and he was having so much fun with this lineup.

    Re: Concert Vault Feedback

Nona:  your description of your experience at the Led Zep show is fantastic.  Brings me back to the times, it does.  I too was at shows where the groups were not very well know yet, or I was able to see them as their careers were still blossoming (The Band, Hendrix, Allman Bro's, etc).  I can still pull specific memories from the recesses of my brain from the Winterland and Fillmore West.   The closest I ever got to the stage was for a Buddy Guy set and a The Who show, both at Fillmore West.  Buddy was absolutely riveting and got the Fillmore West crowd under his control first, then took us on a wild blues guitar ride, a la south side of Chicago. The Who show was jaw-dropping for me, a non-Who fan.  I was about 20 feet in front of Townsend; I swear Moonie was so drunk we thought he wouldn't be able to play, but oh, he did.  Away from SF, I was right up front for a Janis and Big Brother show at Santa Clara County Fairgrounds.  I wasn't quite close enough to smell the Southern Comfort on her breath, but close enough to get a real feel for her energy and to see the trippin' eyes of certain band members.  What a performer she was -- gave it her all no matter what the venue.

    Re: Concert Vault Feedback

Does anyone remember when Sly and the Family Stone played at Winterland?  Yes, he actually showed up and played for at least one and a half hours.  I was pressed up against the stage right smack in front and middle.  How I miss concerts like that!  Is there anyway that Sly's performance can be included here?

    Re: Concert Vault Feedback

This is the second post -- that I can see -- to mention Spirit.  Let me be the third.  It's almost as if they never existed as a live band -- only two bits of video that I've ever found.  But the original lineup was just brilliant.  I saw the only concert they ever played in Britain.  Please post a concert if you have some (and surely you must have).

This is a wonderful, wonderful site.  Thank you.

    Nona:

I was in front of the stage at the Led Zeppelin concert at Fillmore West.  No one knew who these guys were.  There was mescaline going around the crowd that night.  There was a fat naked hippie older woman also at the front of the stage.  She had a white bed sheet on and would open it up from time to time.  Robert Plant and Page were laughing.  I thought I was going to vomit.  I remember watching Plant sing, and how the light was flickering through his hair.  I thought he had the most beautiful head of hair I had ever seen and that he had a small salami strapped to his leg.

    Amazing.

What a fantastic site!!! Thanks a ton for all that ! I second the wish for Kinks concerts and for more Punk/End seventies/early eighties stuff. That doesn´t mean that you should skip the sixties music; au contraire. Keep it all coming !

    Re: Concert Vault Feedback

This is the greatest. I have just quit my job, left my wife and kids and holed up in a cheap flophouse for the rest of my life so I can listen to all of this without being disturbed.  OH WAIT I am disturbed and I did all of the above years ago just so I could try to figure out how to listen to all of this stuff. You made it easy.

Yes, The Kinks! Also The Faces ( October 21-25, 28, 1970) and Poco. And, dare I ask it    The Bonzo Dog Band (Nov 6-9 1969).

Thanks for the input! I've changed the 'Unknown' Terry Reid song to 'Summer Sequence' in our records. You should see the update on the site soon.

One word to the Concert Vault concept:

    Excellent.

Thanks so much as I can't imagine the manhours put into make this happen.

    Incredible.

    Re: Concert Vault Feedback

Just wanted to let you know that I saw Spirit and Cream together at the Anaheim Convention Center in (i think) 1967. I was a little kid and it was like being in a candy store.  From what i remember - it was awesome!
