    Downloads Done Right:
you always can convert mp3 files to WAV to burn a C.

HELLO and BIG THANKS from the Beer, Cheese, Sausage, and Kringle capital Wisconsin.

First off, converting mp3 files to WAV and then burning them to CD is transcoding and it is NOT good for the files....and it does NOT enhance the sound of any file it is done to.  Some stereos may not even play the disc you burn that way.

Anyways, I ALSO would love to see a lossless (FLAC) format due to the fact that mp3 is a lossy codec and when a CD is burnt, there are gaps (spaces) between the music that ruin the experience....live concerts such as these NEVER had gaps (spaces) of complete silence between the songs because....the concert DIDN'T stop until it was over.  That is what is so GREAT about the concert experience.  I am glad that those wanting mp3 for portable players, smaller Hard Drives, and no concern for the experience are able to have it at an affordable price.  My own audiophile tendencies and concert going ways would like lossless to KEEP the atmosphere and individual character that each musician gave during one of these awesome shows.  That IS what it's ALWAYS been about....the love of the music, the love of the band, and the respect showed to both by the fans themselves.

    :)  :)

    Re: Downloads Done Right

Fantastic site, but I really really wish these new Mahavishnu Orchestra concerts were available as REAL SILVER CD'S - they only cost a few pennies to press if you're making 1000+ at a one time, why not do the same as Pearl Jam or The Allmans and just use minimal artwork - sounds the same, lowers the production cost, and makes it clear that it's archive release, may show it's age via analog->digital, but MP3?? you would be banned from some well-known live concert sites if you were trading shows in MP3, never mind selling them!!?*&&^%$£$"£!"!               many thanks, Alan , Oxford, UK.

    Re: Downloads Done Right

I can't believe it's been 7-8 months and still no lossless downloads. Back after the lossy mp3's were offered up, we were told lossless was next. I posted on a fairly regular basis asking for some type of projected date for that, and I see it hasn't come to fruition. Never will. Oh well. What else should I expect..

I WILL NEVER BUY AN MP3 SOURCED SHOW

    PERIOD!

ARE THE FREE PLAY SHOWS SOURCED FROM MP3'S TOO?

Bottom Line - MP3 sounds WORSE than flac, or wav.

why would you want to spread a sound degraded concert?

Digital Rights Management is easily eliminated by digital to analog conversion...... That's all I have to say

    96kpbs streaming. eh...

Ok so I understand the need to keep the bitrate down for free streaming, but would love to be able to purchase the shows in higher quality. I can't listen to 96kbps. I hear the swirlys and mud constantly (I listen on Magneplaners and hear everything...). And none of the shows I want are available for purchase (new wave stuff). Perhaps all the shows could be made available for purchase (in FLAC too)?

    Re: 96kpbs streaming. eh...

It cracks me up becuase a MAJORITY of the people on this site are SCREAMING for FLAC files instead of MP3'S!!!!! What is the big deal? Just start offering them in Flac instead of MP3. Duh! The sales would probably skyrocket if they did this.

I also posted in another part of the forum the same thing about Flac and SHN files being used instead of MP3's, the webmaster came back and answered everybody's questions about various website issues EXCEPT the Flac Questions.... I guess their not going to change things, and they won't be getting my money!

    Re: Downloads Done Right

I would also love to see the lossless format become available here with no lossy lineage.  I remember reading in the begining that it was coming and then "poof", it never happened.  I am guessing that mp3 is so easy to profit from that the audiophiles got left out of the equation.  I love the fact that this site has done what it has for live music from bands that everyone loves.  I am concerned that profit speaks louder than fans and thus make it almost impossible for those of us who actually enjoy the quality and not the quantity.  Sounds alot like the RIAA stand....money....lawsuit....more money....grandma downloads bing crosby...lawsuit....more money.

The artists signed contracts which gave these company's the power to do what they want...if the artists want to profit from their work then maybe they should take the work back from these companies and empower themselves to do what folks like Trent Reznor & Prince have done....lost NO money to the big-wigs by promoting themselves with their fans in mind.

A seperate section maybe for lossless uploads would be appropriate.  MP3 is fine for folks who aren't interested in quality but when the music was originally recorded, the artists were concerned about it....and so am I.

Thanks for listening.....but I am quite sure that us audiophiles are going "unheard" due to the cash register ching.
