Please go Lossless. I want to support the Bands and pay for concerts. Being a Boomer and a Hippie From The 60's, I'm an Audio File type of guy like most of us old folks. FLAC would do the trick. I know it would take up more server space and longer to download, but hell, I or we would pay a little bit more for the FLAC.

I agree that Lossless formats do have an advantage in quality over compressed formats such as MP3, OGG or wmv, but the drawback is a file size which is proportional to the increase in quality (i.e. "way out of proportion"-ally proportional).

For a while now though, compressed formats have been able to decrease file sizes with only a very small decrease in quality, I don't notice it anymore.

I would download lossless formats if I was given the chance and then burn them to  cd, but the problem would be to get it on a portable player. As my computer is slower than a snail pulling an elpephant and lags like a flight from California to Spain,  I can't change the formats.

That's just my two cents.

I just run my mp3's that lack a full PUNCH through the Sony(previously Sonic Foundry) sound editor...Sound Forge.

A simple run through the wavehammer pre-set will re-master the file, and it sounds sonically great.

The version they sell now has noise reduction,which will take out any form of hiss or trash.

Just an idea for people with a lot of live recordings from various tapes,sources and compressed formats.

I've been doing the same thing with a similar program for months now, Battlemar. I keep backup copies of any flac or wav I download... and it always makes me smile when I read the complaints about mp3 when SO MANY folks just don't know how much it can be improved.

Does this statement exclude therefore most of the older concerts that may have never been intended to be rebroadcast or put onto an album or CD, and that never had the foresight to imagine downloads over an internet that didn't exist in 1968?

Help me defend your site when my professional musician friends complain about it!

Compared to what I've read about the music industry the Wolfgang's Vault agreement looks great for artists.  Here's hoping that some of the less successful performers represented in the Vault get some well deserved compensation from their work through this.

This statement only pertains to about 50 concerts from the King Biscuit archives that were already covered by agreements made with the recording artists.

I used to be picky about audio quality having to be unbelievably good.  Not nearly as picky now.  MP3 is just fine, thank you very much.  It's all about the music and remembering being in the third row for Steve Miller Band and the Sons of Champlin and ... in the late 60's.  Wolfgang's Vault has to be one of the best, and best-managed, web sites on the internet.  Thanks so much! 

I've noticed that you feature original King Biscuit Flower Hour broadcasts. I suppose this should come as no surprise, as you call yourselves King Biscuit Records. What has raised my curiosity is the fact that you don't appear to be associated with the radio program, nor with KFFA in Helena, Arkansas, where the broadcasts have originated since 1941. While I wouldn't mind downloading some King Biscuit radio broadcasts, I want to make sure I'm not violating any ownership rights in doing so. Can you please explain how you are able to offer these broadcasts, and how you come to be able to use the King Biscuit name. Thanks.

You are correct King Biscuit Records is not associated with KFFA. While the name does have some roots to those early Blues broadcasts, which were funded by the King Biscuit Flour Company, King Biscuit Records acquired all of those rights from the flour company and owns the trademark registration to the name King Biscuit. King Biscuit Records has however allowed KFFA to use the name King Biscuit Time(s) for it's regional broadcasts of it's Blues show. Rest assurred that King Biscuit Records has securred all necessary rights to make the shows available for download and appreciates your interest and business.

Thank you for your explanation, it looks quite fair to me that you open your policy on this matter. I just enjoy having these great concerts still alive. And some of them are so vivid memories until I look into the mirror and see this old man looking at me!!

I wish the congress-proposed rules for streaming audio were laid out this clearly. It would be a shame to loose the ability to stream audio over the net. (Well, it wouldn't go away, you just would have to me a geek to be able to do it undetected, like you used to have to be.)

Personaly, I am glad that Wolfgang's Vault is so forthwright with their payment strucutre. It's good to see accountability and fair treatment exists in the business world.

I can be picky too, but I have to remember what I am using to listen to the concerts with. On $200 headphones or $2000 Mackie monitors the 256kbps download mp3s sound great but on $10 ipod ear-buds... - anything heard through thoes ear-buds is like listening through a foot of steel-wool. The moral is if the hardware can't deliver then the format doesn't matter a whole lot.

I still buy/use the occasional flac or just use wav, but mostly I encode my personal mp3s using the lame (it's the best mp3 encoder out there) preset "standard".

After reading some of these concert descriptions I am supporied any of the WV listeners whoe have been to these concerts can hear anything anymore! I read that at a Pink Floyd concert the volume was so loud that some fish died in a near buy lake - ouch!
