The missing song from the Philly '73 stream is, of course, "Love Reign O'er Me". Thank goodness

we at least get the version from Largo.

Will this concert be available for download soon? It looks like people are really digging it.

I had the exact same question

I know this concert is different. It's not just who fans that are liking this concert it's the whole vault audience.

The ad from the Washington Post.  The review from the Dec 7 Washington Post does refer to it as "Largo's Capital Centre."  To add more confusion this Alice Cooper ticket says "Landover" http://www.sickthingsuk.co.uk/tickets/19731219.jpg.

Also, The Who were not the first band to play there.  The above ad is from a full page ad of several concerts scheduled at the Cap Centre. For one thing the Allman Brothers played there Dec 4.

Hey, I stand corrected, you are 100% right,  in fact I found my ticket stub for the Allman Bros show, I also taped it that night and have still, and IT was the very first concert there.  The Who on the 6th was obviously the second.  As for the Largo, Landover identity, both were used in ads and throughout the years as the address of the Capitol Center as those two little towns are right together and the Cap Center was on the line.  Either one was really correct.  Love the ad you posted, what other shows did it show coming.

I copied The Who ad while in college two decades ago.  I can't remember what other bands were mentioned, except Alice Cooper on Dec 19th.  I only knew about the Allman Bros. as it was mentioned in the Who concert review.  The photo insert that came with the Odds & Sods album is taken from this show.

I am looking forward to a download of this show as well.
I am actually holding in my hand a Maxell UD 120 cassette of the entire show recorded off of FM in 1974 (King Biscuit back in the day I am pretty sure.)

As the cassette has held up amazingly well (I have digitized it since) I would love an updated version.

However I am hoping the Wolfgang engineers will have another go around with it, as at very least the stream is over modulated. I know this as I have a pretty good sounding reference. Listen to the distortion in "Dr. Jimmy."

I also looked at it in wave form as it was streaming and the tops of the wave forms are just as flattened out as can be which also suggests some heavy compression. Lowering the output volume, just makes it quieter, not cleaner.

If in fact this show is not going to be available as a paid download, here's hoping the engineers will re-listen to the stream and and calm down the output.

    Re: Philadelphia 1973: Who's Right?

Why is the Philadephia Won't Get Fooled Again that appears on the KBFH's own "Best of the Best" live compilation CD released commercially in 1998 a different, better mix than that appears on this stream? like the version that circulated for years, the stream version starts about 30 seconds into the song and then one can clearly hear the acoustic guitar present on the synthesizer track. The version on Best of the Best is complete, no fade in, and is mixed much better. Is there another mix of the whole concert lurking somewhere within WV?

    Re: Philadelphia 1973: Who's Right?

I don't know about Wolfgang's Vault, but there seems to be a better mix of the whole shows in The Who's archives as songs from both shows were used on the "View From A Backstage Pass" cd set.

Don't forget, folks, you're not comparing apples to apples.  Our streams are originating from 96k mp3 files that have been encoded from the original mixes.

    Re: Philadelphia 1973: Who's Right?

    Firstly, if:

"It is well documented that The Who played in Boston on 12/3"  then they couldn't of been in Philadelphia playing as well.

Secondly, I've had a rumage through my bootlegs and I have 3 vinyls from this gig. Although none of them are date specific I have sheets printed off from the "Baba O'Riley's Bootleg Page" webiste for each record and they all say the date of recording is 12/4 (which was a Tuesday btw).

If it's of any use the 2 tracks used from 12/6 Largo may well be "Pinball Wizard" and "See Me/Feel Me -We're Not Gonna Take It".

So my best guess is the engineers labelled the tapes wrong. Possibly for a laugh, 35 years later! They may well of been labelled up a week later and a simple error was made, easy to do.

*update* - I'm totally confused now, I just checked the 12/6 show on WV and that has Pinball Wizard and See Me Feel Me on it too! The notes I have from "Baba O'Riley's Bootleg Page" say the last two tracks of 12/4 Philly were infact from 12/6 Largo.

I did notice Roger changed the lyrics on Pinball Wizzard (Philly) to "I aint seen anything like him in any COMMUNION HALL" (instead of amusement hall). Maybe this is a clue to where they were if The Spectrum or the Capitol Center is known as a communion hall. Or maybe it's just a English to American-English conversion he did because he felt Americans wouldn't understand 'amusement hall'.

My head hurts, has anybody asked Pete?

Re: Philadelphia 1973: Who's Right?...The Who and Strawberry Alarm Clock?

I realize this is almost completely off subject, but.... The Who and The Strawberry Alarm Clock put out an album. I know SAC opened for the Who at least once...maybe twice. After looking FAR AND WIDE, I thought I'd try here. Does anybody have photos of any live concert appearances, or TV appearances of Strawberry Alarm Clock in 1968? There are quite a few photos of them from '67, but for '68?...hard (impossible?) to find. Thanks for any help you can offer!

Re: Philadelphia 1973: Who's Right?...The Who and Strawberry Alarm Clock?

The Who and The (Strawberry) Alarm Clock? I don't think so... When Ed King and the other founding members left the group, the management company put a fake band on the road using the name and they toured a lot. But they never did an  LP with the Who.

    corkface:
I'm 1000% positive Philadelphia was on December 4, 1973. The Who played in Montreal on Dec. 2nd, and just made the Boston Garden show on Dec. 3rd. I still have my ticket stub from that night, memories of an angry Townshend and photos taken during the concert. I lived very close to Logan Airport at the time, and walked over there to see if I could track them down before leaving Boston. I was able to snap some shots of them (individually) at Logan before they boarded their flight to Philadelphia. I'm still kicking myself that I never thought to get autographs, I was so focused on getting photos ... Thanks so much for releasing these tapes!

How about sharing the photos with us
