    Re: Concert Vault Feedback

Yes, while I love the vault, I would like to see some diffrent older concerts. Enough of the Dead & Airplane doing the same songs as the the last 5 concerts posted. Another AUM ,how about Blue Cheer, Blood Sweet & Tears, Buddy Rich,  Stooges,Blues Image,Sweetwater etc.

Re: Other Artists not currently in the Vault

I second your comments regarding Richard Thompson.

WV has a couple of great Fairport Convention collectibles for sale, but otherwise lacks any reference to one of the (if not THE) most talented guitarists of our generation.  He's been ranked in the top 20 guitarists of all-time by Rolling Stone mag. His songs have been covered by Del McCoury, REM, Mary Black, Bonnie Raitt, Patti Loveless, Elvis Costello, Maura O'Connell, The Corrs, and many other.  He penned the soundtrack for the movie "The Grizzly Man" and is now composing a new musical arrangement for "friend and bassist ('no relation') Danny Thompson" which will be debuted in June 2009.  His 1000 Years of Popular Music project shows the depth of his understanding and appreciation of music history - not to mention that it is a hilariously acerbic response to Playboy's pseudo-sophisticated request for the top music of the prior millineum.

Anyone who has ever been to an RT show will tell you that not only is he a great guitarist and songwriter, he's incredibly quick-witted and the shows are a great interactive experience.   His songs range from poignant and/or heartbreaking (Beeswing, Keep Your Distance, Now Be Thankful, Meet on the Ledge) to utterly whimsical (Hots for the Smarts, My Daddy is a Mummy, I Agree with Pat Metheny...).  In fact, a female friend once told me that his shows made her "laugh until she cried, and cry until she laughed...".  I've never left an RT show without feeling that I have a better understanding of humanity or that I've just witnessed the physical human embodiment of an unabridged music encyclopedia.  (ok, so that last statement is dramatic hyperbole, but the guy really is damned good....)

Re: Other Artists not currently in the Vault

I agree with a previous post here: I would love to see more of the older concerts posted, especially from more obscure groups, and less of an emphasis on material from the Dead and Airplane, stuff that has long been in circulation among tape traders.  I have always wondered - and maybe it has been answered elsewhere in the forums - how the Vault team goes through the thousands of recordings and prioritizes them for upload here?  Is there are itemized list of the entire collection, including material that has not been uploaded?  It seems like a massive undertaking.  When the Vault was first launched I had anticipated more material from the two Fillmores and the Winterland, but it seems as time has gone on more of a preference has been giving to material from the '70s and '80s.  Whatever the case, I would like to see more obscure stuff from that earlier era from groups not currently represented, as well as more from performers who are represented here already, such as Lee Michaels, Mother Earth, Sly and the Family Stone, who - unlike the Airplane, Dead, and Quicksilver, do not have extensive live material floating around tape trade (and now torrent) circles.  In sum, please give us more of the concerts represented in your extensive collection of concert posters!

    Re: What no FLAC files?

I see that now they have iPhone apps!!!  But still no lossless FLAC files?.  Wrong direction, methinks.  It really is a simple thing to do and make available.

Re: Re:Everybody Wants Some I Want Some Too!!!!!!

Has anyone at Wolfgang seen a recording of the Blondie Novemeber or December Winterland gig?

Aside from a comment on Blondie's official gig list that it was recorded and broadcast, a web entry I saw last year on the subject, Wolfgang did record many of the Winterland gigs, which suggests this does exist.

"Winterland  - w/ REO Speedwagon. KSAN Radio broadcast"

    thanks for any help!

To the folks putting this stuff out

Some of us understand what cleaning out the BGP vault really means.

It was a dream we never hoped dream, like the Dead on www.archive.org.

That it's free and here 24/7 is almost scary and I have had many fine times listening to old KBFH and Fillmore tapes, etc etc. Finding gems like the last show of the original Crimson is beyond amazing, and the good stuff just keeps on coming!

Many many thanks from an old tourhead.

PS Any chance of streaming at a higher bitrate? These recordings deserve at least 128. FLAC, really, of course, but not holding my breath on that!

Thanks for the endless delights to all involved in this joyous undertaking!

    Re: Concert Vault VIDEO FOOTAGE

The concert vault IS great, but when are we going to be able to SEE these concerts?  I've heard it was planned what seems like ages ago... has the whole video vault idea been scrapped now?  Can we ever expect to see these concerts?

I would give my left nut to see any early Santana concert footage...1970 Fillmore at Tanglewood
