    Re: Concert Vault Feedback

lots of good interesting shows i havent had a chance to listen to. always a pleasure.

some requests as i go thru my cd collection: crabby appleton-not listed anywhere in wv. did they play live? maybe michael fennelly-guitarist from crabby went solo after.

    the kings-power pop/rock early 80's

supertramp!!-was surprised not to see any of their shows listed.

love the tull but would kill for a couple shows from the late 60's and thru the early 70's. and if video is still being worked on j tull is tops on my list. ian anderson is one of my favorite frontmen for showmenship.

other video musts:black oak arkansas,grin/nils lofgren/any who with keith moon/slade/genesis with gabriel.

    regards,"rpm"

    Re: Concert Vault Feedback/Crabby Appleton

    >>some requests as i go thru my cd collection: crabby appleton-not listed anywhere in wv. did they play live? maybe michael fennelly-guitarist from crabby went solo after.<<

Crabby Appleton--now there's an obscure one. As far as I know, they only played the Whisky A-Go-Go in Hollywood, around 1969. According to an interview with Michael Fennelly, they hung out there all the time and had to perform once in a while to work off their bar tab.

In a broader sense, even  obscure bands have followings and are worth hearings, and I think the "Friday B-Side" concept would be better served by intriguing opening acts who weren't neccesarily famous. I have a list of every BGP-produced show, and just randomly looking at Spring 1971, I see such acts as

The Grease Band (opened for Savoy Brown at Berkeley, with Faces opening 3/11/71)
The Grease Band without Cocker was a terrific group
Fourth Way (opened for Santana at Winterland 3/26-28/71)
        cutting edge jazz rock fusion
Fanny (opened for Van Morrison at Fillmore West, 4/15-17/71)
an "all-chick" (as they used to say) band, much trivialized as a result
Swamp Dogg (opened for Humble Pie 5/13-16/71)
        crazy soul man, another legendary

This is true of every month of BGP, more or less--Wednesdays are for The Dead, Santana and Dire Straits...let's have a little fun on Friday

    Re: Grateful Dead, 11/19/1966

Anyone interested in old Dead Posters? Originals from 1966, scull & roses. Pin marks and tape, but in great used condition.

    Re: Grateful Dead, 11/19/1966

The first track on the newly posted Alice Cooper show only plays for 1:15 and then jumps to the next track. Is anyone else having this problem?

    What no FLAC files?

I am just awestruck by the selection, the great shows, and the outstanding quality.  Listening to Billy Cobham right now from the Bottom Line '78.  Saw him at Toads the same year.

I have to think others have asked for FLAC instead of mp3?  Is there any chance of having that as an option for download purchases?

    Re: What no FLAC files?

I just did a search and hundreds of folks have been asking for FLAC.  Has there ever been an answer to this request?  I agree with the vast majority of those chiming in and mp3 doesn't cut it.  If I'm going to buy something for download it has to be flac.  Fripp offers flac. So does Les Claypool.  It makes good business sense.

    Re: What no FLAC files?

I think people mostly gave up asking for FLAC files. If I remember correctly the people at the vault at one time might have said that it is in the future. Unfortunatley I don't think it's ever going to happen. They have also said that we would be seeing some of the video material that they have but it's been a long, long wait. Probably going on two years. Hopefully we'll get it all eventually but until that happens I wouldn't hold your breath.

    Feature Request

Feature Request: It would be marvelous to be able to search by song title.

I am working my way through the vault in chronological order (requires a lot of backfilling as new concerts are added) and seeing the same songs popping up from different artists makes me want to find all of the versions of a song. When I search for, say, "Kansas City" it only returns concerts that happened there, not performances of the song.

Anyway, thanks for the super fantastic resource.

    Re: Feature Request

    Norm - Thanks for listening.
You can, in fact, search by song title.  However there are exceptions such as the one you outlined in your post.  If our search engine finds an exact match to a performer, venue or city, we will deliver results for those items as they are typically the most relevant.  For example, if you search "watchtower" you will find three instances of "All Along the Watchtower".  If you search for "Kansas City", as you point out, you will get the city results.  We will see if we can find a workaround.  We're busy adding some cool features and hope to be able to announce those soon.
    Cheers.
